After the last episode, how they could top that I have no idea. This is the story of Rumple and how he became the evil guy he is now.
The dark army comes to town to take children who are 14 to fight for them. We open up with a normal Rumple and his son, being upset because a neighbor child has been taken. They realize that his son will be 14 in 3 days and they need to fix things. At first they try to run, but get caught in the forest. The head army guy tells him he will let him go if he kisses his boot. A kind beggar man helps them out of the forest in exchange for food.
We learn that Rumple is a huge coward and his wife had left him with his son because of this. He hobbles around on a cane. The beggar tells him about a dagger that has the name of the dark lord on it. If you steal the dagger and kill the dark lord you get his powers and you can control who gets killed. Rumple steals the dagger and summons the dark lord ZOSO. Zoso appears and Rumple kills him. Revealing that the dark lord was the beggar. The beggar man wanted out of his life and saw Rumple as his escape. Rumple becomes evil and wards off the dark army, killing all of them. His son is appalled and wonders what happened to his dad who is now all green.
Back in Storybrook, Emma wants to become the sheriff since she has been acting as it for 2 weeks. Regina is not having it. She appoints Sydney (her magic mirror) but Rumple showed Emma a loophole in the rules. There needs to be a vote in order to appoint a new sheriff. Rumple then stages a fire at the mayor's office and unbeknowest to Emma, she saves Regina's life. People are floored by her act of heroism. During the election, Emma divulges the fact that Mr. Gold sets this up. The town is even more impressed by her honesty and the fact that she outed him.
In other news, Mary Margaret has a small run in with David and we feel bad that he is still with his wife. Alas. Henry is also down on his luck and doesn't want to see Emma get hurt, since good people do not win and his mother is evil.
Emma wins the election and becomes the sheriff. Mr. Gold tells her she now owes him a favor.
My question is, what happened to Rumple's son? I think they kind of left us hanging with his one. Did he have to leave him because he was the dark lord?
