Hansel & Gretel

I am excited to see another storybrook character come to life. It opens with Henry in the local store with these two kids Nicholas and Ava. They put stolen candy into Henry's bag so they can escape with the real stolen stuff. Mayor Witch is not having it and tells Sheriff Swan to take care of those miscreants. Well, after she tells her that being a blood mother doesn't mean she can come help Henry. Ouch.

Emma realizes these kids are orphans and being an orphan herself, does her very best to find their father, after hearing their mother is dead. She ends up finding him, due to the compass that the kids had which was bought at Mr. Gold's store. He looks up the comment cards and after reading a clearly blank card, gives her the info on dear old dad. When Emma finds him at this mechanic shop, he wants nothing to do with the kids, because he cannot afford nor be a good father to them.

Meanwhile, back in Fairy tale world, we learn these kids are none other than Hansel and Gretel. They were in the woods with their father, collecting wood when they got separated from him. They use the compass to find him but he is missing. The evil Queen finds them and after they try to run away, she is impressed. She tells them she will help find their father if they do her a favor. They are to go into the blind witch's house and steal her black satchel after she falls asleep. The only caveat is not to eat anything.

They break into the candy laden house and are about to steal said satchel, when Hansel eats a cupcake. This awakes the blind witch and she is furious. She locks the door and locks them up. She is going to feed on the boy, when Gretel pretends she is him so that the witch will take her and Hansel can kill her. He gets caught and Gretel ends up pushing her into the oven, stealing the satchel and escaping.

The blind witch is played by none other than Emma Caulfield (Anya from Buffy) and she does an AMAZING job. She blindly asks them if they want to be sauteeed in butter or gravy. After she is in the oven and the queen sends a fire ball to kill her, the Queen states she would have chosen GRAVY, haha. Humor.

The evil queen is super impressed by them and invites them to stay in her castle, live with her and offers them the world. They deny her request and say they want their father. The queen had wished him away. Before they are sent away, she reveals what is in the satchel. It is the poisoned apple that she later uses on Snow White. I love how she goes to her magic mirror to see Snow cavorting with Dwarfs. She frees the children but asks the dad why they want to be with him so badly. He says that family finds each other anywhere.

Back in storybrooke, Henry approaches Emma for the truth about his dad. She tells him some story about him liking pumpkin pie (Cinderella much?) and how he was a firefighter that died heroically in a fire. We later realize that this is not true, maybe his real father will come back in future episodes. We also see her baby blanket that had her name sewed in it. Mary Margaret finds this and thinks its lovely. Well she knitted it, she would know. At some point Emma reveals to her that Henry's theory makes her the mother.

Emma is to drive the kids to foster care in Boston before her engine dies. She calls the mechanic and he comes to collect her and his kids. I guess families do find one another. Back in town Emma and Henry are hanging out as a motorcycle man comes in. We though Henry said nobody ever comes here or leaves, so who is this man? He rides up and asks where to find a room. After directing him to Granny's (the only place in town I guess) he wont give his name up or any clues. They are baffled and so am I!
