The Vow - Movie Review

Last night hubs and I rented "The Vow". I had been told, that yet another Nicholas Sparks adaptation, I would cry. But, alas, I didn't. I did stay up for the entire thing, but did not cry one tear.

We begin with a happy couple, Leo (Channing Tatum) and Paige (Rachel McAdams), who get into an accident. They stop at a stop sign and a truck rams them and she goes through the window. She ends up losing her memory of the past 5 years after coming out of a coma. She cannot remember her husband, Leo. Her parents end up coming and they have never met Leo either. Apparently before she met him, she got into a huge fight with them, dropped out of law school, moved to the city and started her career as an sculptor. She met Leo and married and hasn't talked to her family since.

She ends up going home with them, because she knows them and it feels right. She falls right back into her old life with them. She lightens her hair, dresses preppy again, goes back to law school and even tries to get back together with her ex-fiance Jeremy. Played by Scott Speedman (BEN from felicity!! OH JOY!). Leo is a record producer and owns a studio and wants her to come back, but she refuses. They get a divorce instead.

While out with her sister, who is getting married to Ryan (from BEING ERICA). She runs into a girl Diane she hasn't spoken to. Apparently Diane had an affair with her dad and they didn't mention this to her since she moved back in. Her mother forgave him and they all moved on and she is unhappy they didn't tell her. She breaks it off with Jeremy again, quits law school again, moves to the city again and becomes an art student and sculptor again. She winds back up with Leo and they fall in love all over again.

Not sad, but cute. And three appearances by Being Erica people. His best friend Lily, is Tom's daughter, one of the coffee guys is Dave from Goblins and of course Ryan, the brother in law is Erica's ex. So crazy!

Melissa & Joey: Season 2 Premiere

Hooray! Melissa and Joey is such a cute little show, I am glad it's back. Just a little background. Joey worked for a hedge fund and lost all of his money when the owner ran a Ponzi scheme. He was out of work and mad so he went to confront his boss, but he found Melissa there. She is the sister in law of the scam artist and since both parents were taken, she was put in charge of his two kids, teenagers Lennox and Ryder. He couldn't find a job anywhere else, so she hired him as her nanny. And so it begins. The love affair and hilarious comedy that is Melissa and Joey. When we left them last season, Joe almost got a new job and was moving out and wanted to be romantic with Mel, until the job fell through. Now, he is back in the house with her and platonic as ever.

Mel is doing her whole house over and the kitchen. She needs to be able to do her job as city council woman and supervise the house, but she cannot. She lets Joe take over the house job. He ends up getting into a fight with Leo the contractor about costs of copper and he quits. He then has to do things himself, forcing them to sleep downstairs and after a mis trip to the bathroom, they wind up in the same bed.

Meanwhile, Lennox is putting on a play about her evil principal. The principal bans it and then sees it and loves it and hugs Lennox, she is appalled. Mel bribes the contractor and so does Joey to come back and he does. The house is back in working order.

I Dont know How she does it - Movie Review

Being that I love all things Sarah Jessica Parker, I rented this on netflix. It is about Kate Reddy, who is a full time working mom of two. One girl named Emily, who is 6, and one boy named Ben who is 2. She tries to do it all. She works at an investment firm and travels a few times a week, she makes love to her husband, she plans birthday parties, play dates and even bake sales. There is a funny scene on how she didn't have time to bake so she gets a store bought pie, puts it in Pyrex and sprinkles sugar on top. Tada! Homemade.

She gets a huge project at work that requires her to travel to New York 3 days a week and work with hunky Pierce Brosnan. He ends up falling in love with her, but she realizes that she wants to love her husband and sets him up with her single and fabulous friend Alison (the girl from madmen and Life as we know it). There is also her assistant Momo (Olivia Munn) who only cares about work and says wry and witty things. She ends up getting pregnant and having a baby.

They do a lot of shots of interviews with the other characters, including Busy Phillips who plays the stay at home mom with the nanny that goes to the gym from 10:00am - 2:00pm. Nice life! It shows that it is really hard to be a working mom, but Kate makes it work. She is a full time mom, full time wife and full time employee. This movie was super cute and worth the rental.

Sarah Jessica never fails me. She always acts like Carrie and does her screams and facial expressions as she always did!

Breaking Dawn: Part 1

*Warning: Spoiler Alert*

I got a chance to see Breaking Dawn: Part 1 this weekend. Now, to be fair, with all two part series (Harry Potter for example), the first part is always boring and they save all the good stuff for part two. Now with that disclaimer, I have to say I found this movie to be mediocre at best. Lets' dig in...

We start off with the wedding to end all weddings. Alice of course plans this extravagant wedding for Edward and Bella. I personally, did not like Bella's dress. I had been waiting to see this for a while and I think the dress was disappointing. I do however love the addition of the something old and something blue hair clip that belonged to Grandma Swan. The wedding was lovely except for the small interlude of them pretending nobody was there. I actually hated all the dream reveries and nightmares that Bella had. I think they could've done without these in the movie.

On to the honeymoon, which was as I expected it to be. I love how they stop in Rio and they dance and then head off to Esme Island. I particularly liked how they showed the breaking of the bed, playing chess and spending time together. I thought they should've touched upon Edward making her eggs every morning, this was an endearing part I would have liked to see. With that being said, they did however make more love and sex scenes. I was a bit confused as to if they waited until that last day to finally have sex or they had been doing it the whole honeymoon.

She becomes pregnant and her belly is growing fast. I loved the makeup and special effects job they did on Bella. They made her look gaunt and sickly, just like the baby was eating her alive from inside. I think they could've touched more on the now close relationship with her and Rosalie, since they have been sworn enemies the entire series.

Now onto the wolves. Jacob breaks off into his own pact with Seth and Leah. (Was Leah played by a different actress this movie? I was questioning that the whole time) and they never showed Jacob making the internal decision to be Alpha male that was always his choice. Also with Jacob, he was there for Bella, but I wish they showed more of why he was there for her more than ever. They could've spouted some more lines from Bella on how she "needed" Jacob around, to hint at the imprinting cliff hanger.

Now, in the book, they spend pages on showing how the venom was seeping into her body and the internal struggle she had while the transformation was going on. This was hard to convey on screen. In fact, some of the movie was laughable, which I felt embarrassed for the book. This was my favorite book of the series and for people to be laughing, makes a mockery out of Stephanie Meyer's vision.

Finally, the baby arrives, Renesme. But in the vision, she has curly red hair and in the book it says curly blonde hair. Confused again. We find out that Jacob has imprinted on baby Cullen and now the pack cannot hurt her because those are the rules. One rule that Weres live by. Ok, people in the theatre roared with laughter at this moment. It just seemed so ridiculous as they were saying it so seriously.

We end with Bella waking up with bright red eyes. No surprise, she is a vamp and now we have to wait another year for the second movie to come out.

What were your thoughts on this installment? Were you disappointed or was this on par with your expectations? What could they have done better to portray the book in all its glory?
