I still cannot believe Barney is wearing the infamous ducky tie. I don't even understand how anyone even owns a tie this hideous. He has this dream about two people chasing him and how he has to save a little boy and he only uses his ducky tie to have the kid grab before he falls to his death. A large bird swoops in and takes the ducky tie away.
Good thing little Lily Pad found it in the garbage. Robin's new shrink bf decides this is a metaphor for the fact that Barney is to meet Nora's parents in 2 days and wants to get rid of the tie. He offers up an additional slap to add to the Marshall/Barney slap bet (Slapsgiving ring a bell?) and Marshall gets tempted.
Ted tells this elaborate story during this whole thing that takes us back to August and Hurricane Irene. For those of us in Manhattan during the storm know that it was just some wind and trees and people lining up at the supermarket. For other places, it was much more horrible. They spent the whole time arguing about whether or not they should buckle down or escape to Westchester (which was much worse conditions btw) and they get into arguments. Lilly wont go with Marshall (he has been imagining bears eating him and clinging to Lilly), Robin wont go with Barney (she is upset her dad hasn't called to check on her during "Bocce Ball weather" and Barney fakes calling as her dad) and Ted wants to go in his purple Hunter boots (with Hunter scratched out) and some random chick he met down the hall.
Barney and Robyn have an almost kiss moment during the storm flashback and they decide to take the lids of garbage cans out int he storm and go boogie boarding. Marshall ends up sliding into McClaren's and breaking the front window, hence the need for the "No boogie boarding" sign now in front of their beloved dive bar.
Marshall ends up taking the slap bet, letting Barney get rid of old ducky tie if he agrees to three additional slaps (on top of his remaining 1 slap). He gives him two right there at the bar and boy those have to hurt! The best part of the whole episode is the cab ride home when Barney and Robyn end up making out. (Aren't you rooting for them too?) For a gay guy, he sure can have a love scene with a person of the opposite sex.
My heart dipped.
