Switched at Birth: The Trial

Daphne: She and chef Jeff are having a great time, eating fried bugs together. She goes back to his house and they are so close to having sex, she ends up throwing up. Melanie comes by to get her sunglasses. She was complaining earlier to Regina that he broke things off with her. She sees Daphne's car there and knows what is going on. She tries to speak to her about it, but Daphne wont listen. They say they should break up, but in the end she goes back to his house to maybe sleep with him. Woah.

Bay: She is still trying to find the money to pay her dad back. She gets some from Toby, but its not enough. She finally gets money from Simone and puts the money back. Too bad John realizes there used to be hundreds and now there are 20's. Daphne tells her to confess or she will. She tells her family and they are rightfully more than disappointed in her. She leaves her house and asks to live in Zarra's trailer. Why does she like this girl so much? She thinks that would have been her life if she had been raised a Vasquez.

Toby: Him, Emmet and Nikki rock. But then she tells him that her boyfriend is uncomfortable about it. Emmet pushes him not to let her go and he then asks her back. They get back to their band.

The Trial: They call up the nurse who is crazy. They get a good story out of her, but then the other lawyer makes her sound nuts about barcodes on babies and being given to the devil. Finally, they realize that two other girls were switched, the Tiffanys. That mother will testify. Katherine asks her how long it took her, 9 days. She feels like a bad mom now. At the end, they have one more witness, Katherine. Uh oh. Let's hope she can stand the heat!

Switched at Birth: Who Your Friends Are

Toby: He is trying to connect with the girl from the church. They go to look at guitars together and they sing songs. She tells him that her father was shot in a parking lot. She turned to liquor and then found church. He also learns she has a boyfriend. He also decides to get the band back together and put his differences aside. He approaches Emmit and asks him to be in the band again.

Regina: She is trying to keep her relationship with Patrick. Even after they spend a fun night together and salsa, he says he cannot be with her knowing that she has a past with Angelo. Speaking of him, where is he?

Bay: Kathryn and John are loosing control of her. First she paints her car and then wants to put dread locks in her hair like Zarra. They do not like Zarra, so try and invite over Alex, her summer boyfriend and his parents for dinner. He soon learns that she is not interested. She gets a call from Zarra that she is in jail and beaten and needs $1500 to bail her out. She asks Alex to be her alibi as she takes out $300 from her account. She goes to her dad's office to steal the rest from the safe. Little did she know that Travis has been sleeping there. She promises not to tell he is sleeping there if he promises to open the safe and let her borrow the money. She bails out Zarra and then learns she lied and she bailed out her and a friend. She asks for the money back but she wont give it. She soon learns maybe Zarra is not the right kind of friend for her.

Daphne: She gets to work early and her and chef Jeff kiss. She is happy keeping it a secret until Scuba asks her on a date. She tells him she is seeing someone. He notices that the chef is paying special attention to her. He ends up ruining tons of shrimp and asks Daphne to take the blame. She does and then he fires Scuba anyways. He says he knows it was him and then Scuba tells the rest of the kitchen that they are dating. Uh oh. What does this mean for them?

Switched at Birth: Daphne's Crush

Bay: Is still hanging out with Zarra. They have been noticing that every piece of art they make, someone named SWAK tags over it. They decide to stake it out and confront him. While they do, he becomes violent and Zarra threatens to stab him. Bay admits to her parents that she will keep doing this. She also sees Emmet and borrows his camera as well as reminds him that nothing has changed. Poor Emmet.

Kathryn/Regina: They are helping to put together the welcome parents thing at Carlton. Regina is feeling jealous of Kathryn especially since she is closer with Daphne and Melanie lately too. She takes it out on her.

Toby: He kind of just floats. But in the end, he decides to meet the church girl and maybe there is something brewing there.

John: He has been worried about Travis. He never wants to leave work. He learns that his family life is less than supportive. He asks him to go batting together after Daphne ditches Travis at the event.

Daphne: She is totally into chef now. She decides to make a move and ask him to something after work. They go and they almost kiss. She soon learns that he has been sleeping with Melanie and is upset. Emmet admits he is too old for Daph but too young for his mom. She asks Melanie why she never asked permission. But why should she? She is an adult. She goes to help out with the Carlton thing and Chef sees her there and learns she is in high school. He thought she was in college. She uses Travis to make him jealous, which works. She follows him back to the restaurant where the two of them finally kiss.

Switched at Birth: Motorcycle Show

Daphne/Angelo: She won't seem to forgive him or be nice to him. He ends up shooting a nail through his hand and she rushes him to the hospital. The animosity is apparent when she says he is not his daughter. She later warms up to him when she gives him work gloves to prevent future accidents.

Regina: She learns about the blonde woman and how her role is in all of this. She gets upset about it, but learns she cannot keep being mad. They are married now, at least on paper. She sees Simone buying a bottle of vodka in the middle of the day and apprehends her. She tells her that she cannot drink her problems away. Although they will not forgive her, she needs to forgive herself. She bonds with her even though her kids would not be happy about it.

Toby/Kathryn: He is worried about him and takes him to church to play his guitar. When he refuses, she sings and he joins her. He meets a nice girl, Nikki, who wants him to come back sing/jam together. He ends up telling mom why him and Simone broke up. She is appalled.

Bay/John/Artist Girl: Bay is upset at her dad for not understanding that graffiti is art. She meets up with artist girl and they get in trouble with the cops. When he sees her name, he lets her go. The friend is upset she lied, but in the end learns that there is more to Bay than that. They bond. Bay ends up telling John that she was the one who grafittied and he is not too happy. Emmet is the one who convinced her to tell.

Emmet: It is the motorcycle show and he is going knowing that Bay will be there. He signs to Daphne that he will wait forever for her. When he gets there, another cute blonde, deaf girl , Robyn, who loves motorcycles is interested in him. He pays no attention. Daphne tells Bay to let Emmet move on. She goes to talk to Emmet and the blonde girl interrupts. She sees what is happening and tells Emmet to go talk to her. He doesn't want to and my heart breaks. I miss her and Emmet. Not this new deaf girl! PSH.

Switched at Birth: Trouble with Bay

Bay/Angelo/John: Angelo is starting to irk John by using his gym and being Bay's dad. John is coming down hard on her because of her failing grades. He orders her to stay in until she does all her work. She works on her French with Angelo and makes him cover for her, when she wants to meet the street artists to paint. She ends up painting on her own dad's wall and having to paint over it. She may be forming a friendship with this girl now.

Kathryn/Regina: Regina and Kathryn are being interviewed about her book. The interview turns into the Regina show when the woman thinks she is the hero, being single, raising a deaf girl, and moving into her home. Kathryn and her go to the hospital to see the maternity ward. She recognizes a nurse there and realizes she is the one that Angelo knows. She lets their lawyer know this and reminisces about when they almost kissed.

Daphne/Melody: Daphne likes her boss chef so much. She starts to get more responsibility by frosting cupcakes and other tasks. When she sees the fruit girl getting all this attention, she dresses in Bay's clothes and applies her lipstick. She tries to hit on him after he serves her mothers and Melody. When she thinks he likes her, she is wrong. Turns out he sleeps with Melody that night and Emmet sees them leaving.

Switched at Birth: Angelo Moves In

Regina announces that her and Angelo got married. The whole family is in an uproar. They go to their interview and the guy believes they have history together, since they do, but has a red flag up when Angelo applies for an apartment by himself. He says its for his mother in law to move out, but now they must keep up the ruse of living together for the random checks they will have. They have the discussion with the family and they agree to let Angelo live in the Kennish house so everyone is happy. My thoughts, how will immigration think they are married when he lives next door? Weird.

Meanwhile, John is upset that his world record is being beat. Emmet comes over to edit his dawn of the deaf film and has a run in with Toby. He hits him because he is still upset about Simone. Simone tries to speak to him in the hallways and he ignores her, even after he helped to put the kibosh on a slut site about her. Regina goes to AA and runs into Simone there. Strange.

At work, Daphne cuts herself and fellow worker bandages it for her. She then drops all these dishes and has a breakdown in the closet. The chef, introduces himself as Jeff and helps her out of her crying fit. We can see where the romance will begin.

Bay has been trying to paint a bus with her street art. She keeps getting interrupted so some other artist girl finishes it for her. She gets angry, but decides to leave it since she likes her work. When she goes back to show Toby, the other girl left her a frame to make her own painting there.

Switched at Birth: Season Premiere

And we are back ASL fans! I am so excited that we are back! When we last left off, Bay found out that Emmet cheated on her with Simone. Daphne said farewell to Wilke. Katherine was publishing her book. Regina was still dating art dealer Patrick but concerned about Angelo since he was going to get deported. Let's begin, shall we?

Bay spent her summer in the Galapagos and comes back happy and free with feathers in her hair. She also brings home a new boyfriend Alex. Toby and Daphne have gotten close and swimming the pool together. They throw her a welcome home party and Daphne insists that she should listen to Emmet and that he wrote her a note in her room.

Her mother has a book party and she finds out that Emmet was in the book. She decides to read the letter. It is a map. She follows it to see paintings on the wall of a timeline of their life together including when he made a mistake and broke her heart and that he loves her forever. Cute. Very cute. She runs into Simone in the hallways and tells her to transfer. She has no forgiveness towards her. After being hung up on Emmet, she decides to meet him. They have an intense signing fight and she tells him that he broke them forever and words cannot help. He says he will wait until she is ready and he loves her. They are bigger than this one mistake. He is right, but she cannot forgive him just yet.

Daphne really wants a job and every time she interviews they say no when they find out she is deaf. I have to say, after watching Masterchef, if a blind person can cook, so can a deaf one. She gets a job in a restaurant that Katherine helps her with. The main chef is a jerk and ends up demoting her to dishwasher. She tries to prove to him she is good. She even has crossover star Raj (90210) helping her out. Chef is ringer alum (Tyler!).

Meanwhile, Katherine is busy with her book and it is getting in the way of being a house wife and John doesn't know how to deal or make his own dinner. Let's not forget that she almost kissed their lawyer at the end of last season.

Finally, Angelo. We begin with a dream that Regina is marrying him. After his trial, the judge sends him back to Italy. She knows what she must do to keep him around. She marries him at the courthouse and that is how the episode ends. Let's see how this one turns out.

Switched at Birth: Spring Finale

I have to say I was a bit disappointed with this episode. I was hoping for more bang, oomph, drama. Some of the deaf signing fights that have been on here have been more insane then audible ones. Let's dig in, shall we?

We start by Emmet saying he needs to talk to Bay in a serious face. We think he is going to tell her about Simone, but instead he pulls out a ring box. He gets down on one knee and she starts freaking out. He opens the box to reveal two yellow earplugs. Huh? He signs will you go to prom with me? The earplugs are because deaf proms are super loud, since they can feel the bass better that way. Ahaha. She says yes of course.

Meanwhile Daphne is trying to ask Wilke to her prom. She wants something creative and her banner is not cutting it. Instead she makes these wanted posters of James "wilke" Wilkerson and then cuffs him at school. Tells him he is under arrest and must go to prom with her. He says he cannot go because his dad has him on lock down until he finishes his paper. She is understandably sad and uncuffs him. Her and Bay decide they should all go together. So Daphne asks her deaf friend at the car wash to come. He says no. Then Daphne goes to bring Wilke lemon bars and meets his dad. He tells her that Wilke is off to boarding school in a few days.

from abcfamily.com

Kathryn puts on this amazing red dress and shows John, but gets no response. She is going to wear that when they chaperon the prom. In comes their lawyer and he says he found a nurse who may be a good person to testify. He asks Kathryn to come with him, but not John, because its too intimidating. They go to see this lady and she tells them that all records were written in pen and because of the overworked employees of course there may have been mistakes and smudged bracelets. She then talks about the anti-Christ and they realize she may not be a viable witness anymore.

from abcfamily.com

Regina gets a call from Angelo from the immigration office. She goes to see him and promises to help him get a lawyer but that she will not get back together with him. He tells her he went back to Italy to clear his name and got nabbed coming back in, well duh. She decides to do Bay's hair for prom since she missed out on so many years of doing it. Bay can only think about Angelo. Regina is still dating her boyfriend and invites him to come over while Daphne is out late at prom.

Emmet shows up in his motorcycle to pick up Bay for prom. She looks amazing and so happy. He gives her a helmet that has her name on it. Super cute. They ride off to prom (no pictures?). Daphne is getting ready when her friend from the carwash is there in a t-shirt tux saying they can go as friends. Just then a stretch limo shows up with Wilke looking soooo cute in it. He is upset about the friend being there, but agrees to take him with them. It ruined his plan of having the perfect prom night.

from abcfamily.com

Bay and Emmett go to see Angelo at immigration. While she is there he tells her he cannot call his lawyer since it costs him and he has run out of money. She offers him $40, which is all she has.

The Prom.....

John is there chaperoning alone sans Kathryn. He confiscates a flask from carwash boy and then drinks some outside. Melody joins him. So cute. You can almost see them together. Meanwhile, Kathryn is stuck with her lawyer because they have a flat. She gets cold and he gives her his jacket and almost kiss. Ok Mrs. Robinson. But she pulls away and asks Toby to come pick her up.

Daphne and Wilke talk about boarding school. He says he was trying to get a good grade on his paper, this way maybe his dad would let him stay. She says they should just enjoy their last night together. She says we should invite Toby and Simone and he says no. She asks why and he tells her about Simone sleeping with Emmett. She doesn't believe him. She goes to confront Emmett and he is busy dancing the night away with Bay. She asks him straight up if he slept with Simone and he signs no over and over again. She apologizes for asking and tells Wilke he lied to her face. Kathryn and Toby get there and her and John dance. They say they want to make up and go back to the way things were.

from abcfamily.com

Emmett pulls Bay aside and says he needs to talk to her. This is it. He cant sign the words. He signs that he hooked up with someone at the basketball game. She asks who and automatically thinks it was Daphne. Until he signs Simone. She is furious. Not only did he cheat, but he cheated with her arch nemesis. She storms out and tells him not to follow her. She goes and throws her helmet in the river. Toby sees Emmett and asks where Bay is and Emmett says I don't know. I was hoping he would tell Toby and Toby would punch him, but the scene ends.

Regina is back at home and after stealing condoms and sleeping with her new boyfriend, she gets a doorbell ring. John tells her he found a lawyer for Angelo but the only catch is, he will have to marry a US citizen to stay in the country. Uh oh.

When will switched at Birth return? Hopefully soon. Were you hoping for a bigger blowout?? I was! Previews show Bay confronting Simone. I love this!

Switched at Birth: Dawn of the Deaf

After last week's steamy episode, I have to say we have to wait one more week till the spring finale to see what happens between Emmet and Bay after the fall of Simone. This was a nice segway episode to keep us wanting more. Let's begin, shall we?

Daphne goes to Simone's room to see if she wants to have breakfast the next morning of the game, she tells her she will be down in 20 minutes. That is, so she can sneak Emmet out of her room. She tells him he has to go, he signs he has to go and she ignorantly is like I cant understand you. He leaves and feels horrible for what he did. He goes to see Bay and apologizes for the way he acted and asks if they can spend his birthday just the two of them. She is curious why the change of heart and even asks Daphne if she said anything and she says no.

Daphne wants to put on a monster movie for Emmet for his birthday. The dawn of the deaf. Since there are only 5 movies for the hearing impaired, it would be nice to make another one for him. Bay is on board and the Kennishes go all out. They have a professional makeup artist, lights, smoke machine, fake blood and everything. Regina is willing to do hair and has to leave somewhere in the middle to do a wedding. Daphne starts to realize she would have had her childhood here if her mother wasn't so selfish. She missed out on hand prints and bird houses and little things that would make her life so different.

from abcfamily.com

Kathryn gets the first chapter of Sarah Lazar's book about the switch and will not let herself read it. She tries to convince Regina to do her half of the book, but she wont. She gets a call that they have some of Angelo's stuff in storage. Her and Regina go to check it out. She finds an old cell phone and a box of old girlfriend photos. She tells Regina about the rumors of Sarah and is ultimately pissed, because John had told Sara about Kathryn's miscarriage. In the end, Regina is convinced to do her half of the book only to kick Sara Lazar's ass. She tells John about this and they continue to fight because she doesn't trust him still.

They need camera equipment and Bay learns that Simone has already checked it out. She asks her to borrow it and surprisingly she says yes. Bay says she heard about what happened at the game and Simone is scared, until Bay says that they didn't win and they will win next time. Wilke is trying to learn sign language for his girlfriend Daphne. He is dumb, but super cute about it.

The Zombie Movie......

They are taping and the camera is not working. Toby asks Simone to come and help. When she gets there, Bay and Emmet are cutely kissing and playing. She introduces them all smiley, like this my boyfriend Emmet. They pretend to have met before. He shows her a text saying you need to go, PLEASE. She says she is trying, but Toby has asked his girlfriend to stay. Wilke asks Toby if he was at the game and he says no. Wilke had heard Simone had a guy in her room. Emmet and Simone are texting each other about how it was a mistake and how she should leave and she leaves her phone on the table to shoot the movie.

from abcfamily.com

Wilke has a part where he needs a phone and reads the texts, then hands it back to her. He is in a jam now. Toby is his best friend and Bay is like a little sister to him. He confronts Simone and she says that it was a mistake and he should keep quiet. He acts weird towards them as they rap up and he leaves before saying anything. Emmet admits to his mother that he made a mistake with another girl after she talks about what a special girl Bay really is. He has moved back in with his mom. She signs to him that he has to live with his choice, but does Bay? It is his decision to make whether or not to tell.

from abcfamily.com

Bay goes to drive Emmet home and they kiss until he has flashbacks of his tryst with Simone. She tells him they need to be more open with one another and they got through so much already, he needs to decide if he is with her or not. He signs with her and decides then and there that he will not tell her about Simone.

Regina and Daphne have a cute moment where they jump in the pool and make their own memories there. And Kathryn and John are sleeping in separate rooms.

How do you think the spring finale will end? I think it will all blow up and I cannot wait!

Switched at Birth: Oh No She Didn't!

I think maybe I should just start watching the last 20 minutes of every show. That is in fact where the action happens! Let's begin, shall we?

Daphne is disappointed because they lost the game that would have taken them to the championship. She is not sad for long, because the Mustangs got disqualified by celebrating with champagne in their hotel rooms. Carlton will go to the championship in Springfield to play against none other than Buckner. The whole school is rooting her on and the principal. She really thinks she can save the team now!

Simone asks Toby to come watch but he wont take off from school to go. Daphne asks Emmett to come and he says yes. Bay cannot take off from school either to go. Simone has been apologizing to Toby for her behavior lately. She also invites him to come stay with her at her hotel room. His eyes light up when she says that and he seriously considers it.

Meanwhile, Regina and Patrick are getting more serious. There is a kissing scene in the car. After that, however, he gets a bit clingy. He comes over unannounced with bagels and lox, Daphne says whats lox? He looks surprised and Daphne jokes that they didn't just fall off the turnip truck. He even follows Regina to the basketball game in Springfield. He is a bit pushy.

Kathryn is meeting the publisher about her book. The lady tells her she loves it, but because of Sarah Lazar's book, she will need to get Regina to write a dual book with her.

Melody approaches Bay and tells her that she needs to sign a written confession about how Emmett is being treated at his dads. She knows she shouldn't, but she has to think the idea over. She tells Emmet what happened and he signs to her that he wants her to stay out of it. So cutely, he says that she is his escape from everything, his island. The island of Bay. She promises to stay out of it. His birthday is coming up and he says he only wants to hang out with her. She wants to get him a new fender for his bike. She goes over to his dad's with Toby to measure it. He says there is no serial number (could it be stolen?) and they look for measuring tape and find all of this pot in the drawer. It is Olivias.

from abcfamily.com

Kathryn and Regina speak to Melody about her confronting Bay. She should have consulted them first. Bay confronts Emmett's dad about the pot and how she is worried about him. He didn't realize she was still selling and says maybe he should kick her out. Bay realizes she is not helping but making this situation worse.

The Game.....

Daphne and John check in and some little deaf girl thinks she is a superstar. Her mother has drove over 11 hours to watch Daphne play, just to show her daughter that deaf people can do anything. Super sweet. When they get there, we learn that some anonymous tip was called in about the technicality that Daphne has not been on the team for 6 straight weeks and cannot play. Melody signs that this would crush people from all over the world that came to watch her. Buckner's coach says he is fine with it and they get to play.

Daphne runs into Simone and she assumes she is the one called in the tip. John calls home and tells Toby about this tip thing and he thinks the same thing. Emmett is there and yells at his mom (in sign) about talking to Bay. He wants her to stay out of his life.

They watch Daphne and she gets so confused when the Buckner girl tells her that she was the one who called in the tip, she loses the first ball. After that, John tells her to tune it all out. They play well and so does Buckner. Simone is supposed to drive the ball to the net and run out the clock but she tries to shoot. Daphne gets tripped up and has two foul shots. For the second one, she tunes out her hearing aid and makes the point, winning the game. Everyone is happy!

from abcfamily.com

While the game was going on, Emmet's dad is there to tell him that he cannot live with him anymore and full custody goes to his mother. Emmet starts to cry and sign was I too messy? Is it Olivia? And his dad signs no, but something Bay said to him made him realize. He gets furious, Bay? He calls Bay on the phone and signs her to stay out of it, he even speaks a little he is so upset and cries. His phone freezes and he throws it then hits the wall of his hotel room. OMG.

The Kickers.....

1. Even though everyone is happy about the win, the principal tells them they will still need to cut girls' basketball. Daphne is upset.
2. Simone texts Toby to come to her hotel, but he writes back no. She goes to get some ice for the vodka she is going to drink and sees Emmet there icing his hand. She says she is going to drink and he says he is going to wrap his hand that he had a bad night. And here is where it starts, I keep saying NO WAY, but then she offers to help him wrap his hand. Cut to the scene where they are going at it in her room, while he takes his shirt off. OMG....

from abcfamily.com

For those of you who watched, can you believe it? What is he going to say to Bay and what is she going to say to Toby? WOW..... This is what I have been waiting for!

Switched at Birth: Return of Ty

Blair Redford is pretty busy. Starring as Ethan Whitehorse on Lying Game and cameo phone calls and photographs of him on Switched at Birth. Let's begin...

Bay/Ty/Emmet: We learn that a helicopter carrying American soldiers went down in Afghanistan. We automatically think that Ty was on it and he is hurt, but nobody knows. Bay is super worried and begs her dad to reach out to this family friend general. Daphne tells Emmett about this and he goes to console Bay. She tells him that she is extra worried because he usually replies to her email ASAP. I immediately felt mad with Emmet right there. How could she keep this from him and think it was OK? He signs to Daphne is it ok to mad and she says not really.

from abcfamily.com

We found out later on that Ty is OK and Emmet goes to see Bay. He is even more upset about how happy she is about Ty. Understandable. He tells her that she must show him the emails and she does. They are truly boring about guns, school work and art with pictures to match. Until one photo of Ty and the hammer girl on his truck. Yikes. Emmet is mad that she shared this with someone other than him and wonders if she does this with all of her boyfriends. He wonders why she never mentioned she had a boyfriend and I feel bad again for him. Ty later on calls Bay to say he is ok and talks about wanting another hammer girl for his truck. She agrees and then tells him that she is seeing Emmett and thought he should know. Good girl. But is it too late?

Simone/Toby: Simone got Toby another gig to play solo but he already promised Wilke to play this keg party. She then tips off the parents so the party gets cancelled so she can play the solo gig. Even I know that's wrong. He gets mad at her for trying to control his music and storms off. Simone, not only should you be nicer to both of his sisters, but you need to be more respectful of him.

Katherine/Sam: Britzia may not be able to testify now since Katherine paid her money. They go to Angelo's lawyer's office to see how Angelo knew about Britzia. The lawyer tells them that he knew someone at the hospital who was a smoking gun. There is some cute bit about the lawyer thinking Katherine is like Mary Jane and she doesn't get the spiderman reference. She approaches Regina about Angelo and she says she has not heard from him. I wonder how he knew. Do you think he was sleeping with one of the hospital people?

Daphne/John/Wilke/Travis: Daphne is back at Carlton and the towel boy Travis is giving her a hard time. I think these deaf signing fights are so much more intense then a yelling fight ever was. How do they sign so fast?? He tells her how privileged she is and she tells the principal. She fires him and Daphne feels bad so convinces John to hire him to work at the car wash. After a rude customer gets the finger, John tries to fire Travis but he wont leave. He threatens to sue for discrimination if they let him go. Daphne goes to see his home and learns that his mother, nor father nor brother know how to sign. That must be rough. Daphne's whole family and now extended has started to learn. She gets him a job  back at the car wash and tells him that not all hearing people are so bad.

from abcfamily.com

Meanwhile, she is still with Wilke and things are great but she wants him to learn how to sign. She tries to teach him a few things but he doesn't take it seriously. He just wants to learn how to sign "let's make out". Figures. Will this relationship last like this?

Switched at Birth: Crazy Deaf Fight

I have to say the last scene was one of the most dramatic, hold your breath in, on screen fights I have ever seen with NO WORDS. Read on...

Emmett is starting to use his hearing aid and practice speaking out loud. He is doing a pretty good job, but Bay walks in and interrupts him. He feels very self conscience, so his dad's girlfriend tells him to take a drink to loosen him up. Are you kidding me? He is 16 years old! Bay signs what is she going to do next? Make you shoot heroin?

from abcfamily.com

Daphne and Simone are still at each other's throats about basketball. It doesn't help that Daphne got picked for athlete of the month. Wilke did as well for lacrosse and he tells her that this is amazing. All they have to do is give a tour to the alums who send money and they get free swag. She also tells Wilke how horrible Simone is being. He goes to speak to Toby about this since he is her boyfriend. He warns Toby about Simone and Toby doesn't listen.

Daphne goes to see Melody as she is having a garage sale. Melody tells Daphne that Carlton is going to cut the girls basketball team because they are not preforming. Daphne feels pangs of yuppy guilt. During her tour with the sponsors she tries to promote giving money to Carlton. The coach gives her a hard talking to about this. She realizes she has made the wrong choice by playing for Buckner. She goes to rejoin the Carlton team to save them.

Regina's art is being shown in the art show. She asks Bay to come and although she is not happy about she agrees as long as Emmett comes with. She learns that Emmett wants to drop out of school to be a photographer. She is not happy with this decision. She goes to seek help from Melody. She is the last person she would be speaking to. But she tells her about how he wants to drop out and Melody says she will take care of it.

The nurse who made the switch has lost her job due to tardiness. She tells Kathryn she cannot find another job and is about to not testify to get her job back. Kathryn feels bad and offers her money. She sells her SUV for a cheaper car and uses the money she got in the difference in cash to give to Britzia. Bad move Kathryn! This may jeopardize the entire case. John is not happy about this either.

The Art Show....

Regina finds out that people like her work because of the blurb in the program about how she has a daughter who was switched at birth. She is livid about this. One of her masks that she made is not for sale. We later on learn that it was made after she found out about Bay, since it has Bay leaves attached to it. Sweet moment. Melody comes as well and hangs out with Bay. In walks Emmett and he has his hearing aid on. His mom can smell the alcohol on his breath. She signs to him that he is not allowed to drink. In walks his dad and Olivia. Melody is furious. She goes to have an all out brawl with him in sign about how she will call protective services on him for letting him miss class and drink. Emmett is to move in with her by the end of the week. Olivia signs in as well, but nothing compares to the heat you can feel from this signing fight. Emmett is furious with Bay for telling his mother and speaks "JUST DON'T" as he walks out.

from abcfamily.com

Bay goes to see him at school and he wants nothing to do with her. She really just cares about him, but he cannot see that now. He is too angry. Regina even sold one of her pieces for $500 and another date with Patrick. But my question is what ever happened to the missed call from Angelo? Did we forget about him already?

Switched at Birth: Family Portrait

Emmet is over with Bay and eating almost everything. Kathryn tries to help by making him food. Emmet has a class project to take a family portrait, but his family is crazy. He signs a choking thing which is super funny. She offers her family up with the addition of Daphne, Regina and Adrianna. He accepts. He then speaks to Kathryn about how heartbroken Bay was over Ty. He then acts really weird to Bay and says he needs to go every time they get together.

from abcfamily.com

Daphne and Simone are besties. Simone tells Daph she found the watch that was supposedly stolen. She sold that watch to help pay for a professional coach for them to win the tryouts to start on the bball team. Monica tells them her friends are not allowed to play anywhere because they were accused of stealing. Daphne urges Simone to tell coach the truth, but she says no and to drop it. Simone then tries to dress Daphne in a tight dress which Regina disapproves of.

Daphne reaches out to Bay to figure out why she stopped being friends with Simone. She tells her this story of this girl they tortured in 8th grade. They made a video of this girl professing her love to a jock guy. Then they made the video viral. The girl had to transfer schools because of the embarrassment. Daphne goes to coach to tell him about the finding of the watch. Simone already beat her to it and made Daphne look like the one behind the whole idea. Daphne admits she knows that she was hired because of her disability. Coach decides to play fair and pins her against Simone to see who starts.

from abcfamily.com

Meanwhile, Kathryn is writing her book and she eventually shows John. John takes Toby with him to play baseball and his amazing. Toby loves his music though, so he was never interested in his raw baseball talent. John cant understand, but eventually tries to see Toby preform.

Speaking of raw talent, Regina is back at the salon and cutting some guys hair. They end up going on a date and she convinces him to look at Bay's artwork. Bay shows him a few pieces but he is not interested. She is only 16 and her work does not say much just yet. He is however interested in Regina's piece with broken glass. It was from her drinking time and it shows something. He wants to show it in her gallery. She tells this to Bay and she gets really upset. Even Kathryn argues with Regina about this. Adriana comes back to live with them.

Daphne plays against Simone and beats her out for the position. Simone then snubs her and Daphne learns she is not her true friend. My thought is, isn't Simone dating Toby who is brothers to both Daphne and Bay? Wouldn't she have to be nice to her boyfriend's sisters? And where is Wilke?

The family portrait is going on and they are all uncoordinated and unorganized. They finally get it together and Emmet takes the shot. Bay asks him what is wrong and he asks her if she loved Ty. It gets deeper. He is really upset how is parents were in love and got divorced and wants to know if him and Bay will fall out of love. She says wait, are we in love? He signs, I am and she says me too. They kiss and I am super happy. My heart swells.

In the end, Regina has a missed call from Angelo. And Emmet texts his mom because he misses her.

I love this show and I want to see more depth and less of a filler episode, please!

Switched at Birth: Grandma!

The theme here today kids is grandmas. The arrival of grandma Bonnie has everyone in a tizzy. Played by Meredith Baxter (Family Ties) she does a great job of being that annoying mom and grandma. She comes in to meet her new granddaughter. She gives Toby a poker set, Bay a book on Latin American artists and Daphne an antique cameo that was her grandmother's. Bay is clearly feeling slighted as she tries to tell her grandma that she has been chosen to paint the school mural. Ouch. I have to say that mother Kathryn is really great throughout this whole thing.

from abcfamily.com

We find out that Grandma has a big chunk of the carwash business as well. She has a talk with Kathryn telling her how Daphne is blood and Bay, she may love, but is not her real granddaughter. Ouch. Bay hears the whole thing and rightfully gets upset. She goes to paint her mural and after a painful tea with grandma and Daphne, she ends up messing up the whole mural with white paint.

Meanwhile, Adriana and Regina are not happy with one another. With no Angelo to be found, Regina is without a business partner and needs to give up her salon. Adriana in the end decides to move out and back to her old neighborhood.

Toby and Simone are still together and she wants him to produce a single. She is starting to get him booked on some gigs. She then tells him to change his sound and to change his look. Bay interferes and tells him Simone likes to mold people. I guess when they were besties, Simone did the same to Bay. It would be good to know what happened between them. Toby ends up telling Simone to back off and she does and they are together again.

from abcfamily.com

Some girls from Daphne's hometown are using the track and locker room at Mission Hills High. Simone accuses Monica, one of the girls, of stealing her watch. They almost get into a fight and Daphne tries to break it up. The principal gives them community service. Daphne tries to reconnect with those girls and they shun her because she is not from their home town.

Bay asks Regina, who has the same artist gene, to help her fix the mural. Where is Emmet throughout this whole thing? In the end, Kathryn gives her mother a check for her half of the car wash business. They want to do things on their own and without her interference. So I guess, we had two grandmas and now we have none.

I hope that next week has some real drama because this was just a side without the men of Mission Hills!

Switched at Birth: Bye Bye Angelo

Emmet and Bay are moving boxes over to his dad's. He immediately loves her and hugs her, signing how gorgeous she is. His new girlfriend loves her too. She is hard of hearing, so she still talks and is super eccentric. They also have a huge bong in the living room. She tells Bay that she can sleep over any time and she is super cool with it.

Kathryn runs into Angelo at the farmer's market. They share a quaint conversation about having families from Italy only 5km away from one another. She decides she wants to invite him over for dinner. Regina, Bay and John are ok with the idea. Especially since Regina is sleeping with him. Her mother Adriana (who has been MIA) is not okay with it. She knows they are sleeping together and so does Daphne.

Meanwhile, Wilke takes Daphne out on a date on the golf course. She is driving the golf car and hits a sand trap because she cannot hear. He rolls over and starts telling her how he had scoliosis when he was younger and people made fun of his back brace. She connects with him because people made fun of her too. She goes to dish with Simone and the other girls and apparently Wilke dated not only all of them (plus the volleyball team) but took them to either the golf course or world of fun. He later has a heart to heart with Toby, saying he really likes Daphne and wants his advice. Toby makes him feel low by saying he is not a deep person. Ouch. Daphne and Wilke end up kissing and talking about their feelings. I think this is the cutest relationship (besides Bay and Emmet) so far this season. "We go to together like Ketchup and eggs" he says, "Ew that's disgusting" she retorts, haha. Adorable!

from abcfamily.com

Daphne is working at the car wash and this blonde woman comes in. When she asks Toby about her, he gets very defensive. He says she is just a reporter and there was never an affair. Uh oh. Something shady in the Kennish house. The alarm goes off at the house and John is nowhere to be found. He says he is at the golf club, but they say he is not. Daphne checks his date book and spies him and this girl looking awfully cozy over coffee. She later confronts him about it and he says he was with her because she is going to write a switched at birth book too and wanted to derail her. Daphne doesn't believe him and cries in his arms because she doesn't want two deadbeat dads.

At the family dinner, John and Kathryn get a call from their lawyer. He finds out that there is a warrant for Angelo's arrest in Italy. They confront him and he says it was because he had been engaged, his best friend had been sleeping with his fiance and he punched his lights out and fled the scene. Everyone is upset and Regina is the most upset. They threaten to turn him in but don't do so.

Emmet and Bay are going to sleep together. She even buys condoms. They have this cute talk about being virgins, but she signs the word vegetable instead. He says "are you upset that I am not a vegetable?" super cute. "I don't peel and tell". She goes to tell him how the dinner went with Angelo and he is all team bring Angelo down so she gets upset. He says lets not fight and she throws some low punches about his dad's bong and his weird girlfriend who wants to pose nude for Bay. Ummm. Sex is off the table tonight.

from abcfamily.com

And the cliffhanger you ask?.....

Bay goes to see Angelo but his door is kicked in and his clothes are gone. Where is he? She goes back to yell at her parents, but they didn't turn him in. Who did? Adriana.

What will happen next? Did Angelo run or was he arrested?

Switched at Birth: Save Ripley

We open with Daphne and Emmet sitting at the kitchen table studying, laughing and making eyes at each other before she leans in and kisses him. WHAT. This has to be a dream, oh wait it is. She is day dreaming. Emmet signs "WHAT?" haha. He is truly loyal to Bay and I love that. Meanwhile, his evil mother comes in and says he needs to come up with the money for the $5000 fine for illegally displaying Bay's artwork. She first is overjoyed by Daphne being there, although Bay is not allowed anywhere near him. He tells her he doesn't have it and she suggests to sell his motorcycle. He flips out and leaves. I am loving how I am learning new sign language by watching this. What an original idea to have a deaf child on a major TV drama!

Daphne comes up with an idea to bake cupcakes to save Ripley, or Emmet's motorcycle that he named after his favorite character from the movie "Alien". She is unsuccessful however and doesn't understand why Bay and her family have so much money but none can help Emmet. She lies to Kathryn and John and tells them she lost her hearing aids, but not to tell her mom because she will be mad. So they write her a check for the money and she takes it. Ouch.

from abcfamily.com

She comes clean to Kathryn and tells her she lied and she is really upset with her. Kathryn then automatically thinks it was Bay's idea since its Bay's boyfriend and gets mad at her. Bay goes over to Emmet's school to see if she could help. She runs into his mother after he teaches her the sign for Hypocrite and has another nasty run in with her. She tells Bay she doesn't live in reality. I cant stand Emmet's mother in all of this. Has she not accepted Bay as his girlfriend yet? I mean come on.

Meanwhile, Toby and Wilke are trying to shoot their music video, but that monkey they bought has not arrived. Simone offers to shoot it for them since she has to do a project for her class. Simone lets Toby know that she has been interested in him for a while and they kiss. Super cute! Daphne asks Wilke for the money but he refuses, letting her know that you cannot keep chasing something that is not going to happen. Later on she calls Wilke for a ride home and I hope that these two will get together!

Kathryn is still writing her book. They are interviewing new lawyers for their case and they come across one (Sam Page, who was on Point Pleasant and Desperate Housewives) who they end up hiring in the end. Good choice or bad one?

Regina and Angelo are opening the shop. He finds out from John, who thought he already knew, that Regina had known about the switch 13 years ago. He is furious and goes to Regina and tells her how mad he is. She expects him to quit the business, but he is at the stop and he says he understands she had her reasons. They kiss. Wow. Everyone is matching up.

from abcfamily.com

Bay and Emmet ride off into the sunset on the last ride on Ripley. They kiss too. This is like a kiss fest. After the ride he goes back to his mom's gives her the check for selling his bike. She signs she is sorry and he signs "Its OK, I am moving in with dad". Her face drops and he walks out like it was nothing!

Previews talk about Angelo going AWOL. Of course he does! But something more has to happen with Bay. She is truly an original!

Switched at Birth: Rich Kids

Last week we ended with Emmet getting handcuffed. It never dawned on me why until this week. He was charged with vandalism and trespassing. He did hang that huge poster up for Bay. Melody goes to bail him out and she gets an interpreter to tell her his crime. They go home and she scolds him. Bay seems like the anti-christ right about now.

He is so upset he wont talk to Bay. She goes to see him and mommy Melody tells her in order to help she should STAY AWAY, as she signs each and every letter. YIKES. Even a deaf mom is a scary one.

Bay meets Angelo herself at a restaurant, he orders her an espresso, not knowing that young girls should not drink so much caffeine. Well, he has no idea how to be a father. This prompts Daphne to go see him as well. She asks him if he left because she was deaf. After denying it for a long time, he finally admits he did, only a little. She storms out. I am super impressed with Katie LeClerc. She is NOT deaf in real life, but she learned sign language and an accent to go with. She is a gem, seriously.

Angelo is also trying to help Regina buy her own salon. He wants to put down the money for it and her current employer is less than happy about this. She ends up agreeing and they share a dance over an old tune together in the kitchen. bad news, I can feel it.

Meanwhile, Kathryn is writing her book and Regina objects. She catches her lawyer canoodling with the guy from the hospital board and believes this is too much a conflict of interest. They fire her after mistaking her for a lesbian and she tells them to sue the hell out of the hospital, because they deserve it.

Daphne switched basketball teams but the coach wont play her. She asks Toby to  help her practice the lineup and her strategy. He runs into Simone who's dad is on the board of the school. She tells him that they had Daph join the team to get the $20k grant to get new bathrooms if they are kind to those with learning disabilities. Horrible. Toby tells Daphne and she is appalled.

Daphne is also trying to talk to Emmet about what happened. He explains to her how he hates hearing people sometimes. He has marks on his wrists from the handcuffs. He takes this out on Bay, since she is hearing girlfriend. She is hurt and confused, asks Daph for help and she yells at her too, saying she wont ever understand him. And she is right. She wont. Until she becomes a master signer.

In the end, we are left with a cute scene where Bay springs Emmet from home jail to show him a laser show of her art work. They hold hands and look on super cutely. And we find out from John that Angelo may not be what he seems to be. Apparently, he was MIA for a few years. I can only assume the money for Regina's hair salon is shady and so is he.

I still heart this show and I get butterflies when I watch it.... don't you?

Overbearing Mothers in ASL

I have to say that even in a deaf house, moms are still the same. Always trying to have a hand in what you do and trying to make decisions for you. I really hope when I become a mother, I am more of a guide, rather than a dictator.

Emmit's mom walks in on him and Bay kissing. They have some large signing argument and Bay excuses herself. Emmit's mom discovers he quit AP bio to take speech classes. She blames it all on Bay of course. I don't really understand why Emmit cannot take speech therapy? Is it the devil to hearing impaired? He thinks it is a good idea to get Bay to come over and spend time with his mother and play games. She agrees and make spinach dip and brings Regina. It doesn't go so well, considering that she signed the wrong thing and said "circumcise" (I guess they have a word for everything!) and Melody laughs at her. She storms out and even Regina yells at Melody "She is my daughter too and you owe her an apology" Go Regina! In the car ride home, Regina sticks up for Melody and Bay tells her there is always someone in between them.

from abcfamily.com

Meanwhile, Daphne plays a pick up game for Buckner with her new friend Simone (Who also starred on Desperate Housewives as Gaby and Carlos' niece Ana). The coach is impressed by Daph and offers for her to play for them. She tells John that she wants to quit and he tells her no. She seems to always listen to him, although she is not happy. Simone invites her to a 21 year old club and she needs a fake ID. She asks Wilke and he makes one for her and then begins to make more for all of the deaf kids at Carlton. She goes to the club and Wilke follows her there. She tells him they are just friends and that her feelings will not change. He is heartbroken and leaves.

At the club, the girls are drinking and playing a game of kiss a stranger. Daph chimes in and kisses a guy who has a girlfriend. Simone saves her and then doesn't pay the check. Not too sure what is going on here, but earlier Bay had tried to warn Daphne to be careful about Simone. Sisterly advice?

Katherine is meeting with a reporter who tells her that there will be a tell all book and Katherine should get on board if she wants the truth to be told. Katherine, ends up resisting and then after studying books by Snookie and Kendra (great role models) she tells hubby that she wants to write the book herself. Maybe a new job for a housewife?

Daphne stands up to John and tells him that she may not be able to control Emmit being with Bay, or Angelo back in town, but she can control her basketball commitment. She is going to quit Carlton (they are losers and not competitive, since she gets her competition and sport gene from the Kennishes) and play for Buckner. Good move Daph!

Emmit's mother apologizes to him and he tells her that Bay will be in his life for a while and she should get used to it. She says she will make peace with Bay and he signs thank you. Last scene is Emmit in his own garage, fixing his bike with a wrench. A cop car pulls up, blinds him basically with their light and starts talking to him and he cannot see their lips nor understand. He signs he cannot hear them and holds up his hand with the wrench to stop the light blinding and they come over and cuff him. My heart breaks for Emmit and how can they and why did they do that? Did he do something wrong?

I love this new series... get on board!!!

Switched at Birth

I have to say that ABC Family has done it AGAIN. I was hesitant to begin this show, but decided to DVR the entire first season and see what I thought. I was truly blown away.

Background: Rich family the Kenish's (Dad was a former MLB player, mom is a housewife) and daughter Bay (Vanessa Marano) and son Toby don't all look alike. Bay is a dark haired girl and the rest are light hair and light eyes. One day at her prep school she does a blood typing test and tells her fam the results. They don't think it could be right since it doesn't match their own. She asks to go to the hospital to get some tests done. The doctor tells them that it seems the girls were switched at birth and that Bay is not really their daughter. Bay is such a witty, wry, outspoken, relatable character that you just love to watch her. She is so dramatic, but in a good teenage way. The other family is Regina Vasquez, who is a single mom, to Daphne (Katie LeClerc) who went deaf at the age of 5 from Meningitis. She goes to an all deaf school and has a bestie, hottie, male friend named Emmit. Daphne is gorgeous and smart and she can read lips and speak, but is still deaf.

from abcfamily.com

Once they find out about the switch, the Kenish's invite Regina, her mother Adriana and Daph to move into the guest house to be closer to them. Regina gets a job at a fancy salon in the neighborhood, Daphne ends up dating Bay's ex boyfriend Liam then breaking up with him because Bay asked her to, Bay dates a neighborhood kid Ty, who leaves for the army, Toby is a gambler and gets in trouble with his friend Wilke, and we all start to realize that Emmit is in love with Daphne. He has a whole shrine of photos to her in his room. He also falls for Bay and they start a very difficult relationship of hearing and not hearing. Bay searches for father, Angelo Sorrento (think sexy man from Brothers & Sisters) and tries to get to know him. The Kennish's try to sue the hospital and little did they know Regina had found out about the switch a long time ago from a private investigator. This is where the tension gets thick. When we last left off, Daphne kisses Emmit at a car wash fundraiser and he yells at her. He signs "8 years, I waited for 8 years for you" as she signs back that she just realizes this now, but he signs back he is with Bay. Daph tells Bay she may have broke up with Liam, but will not stop with Emmit. Meanwhile, Emmit wants to take speech lessons to speak to Bay and his mother is concerned for a death/hearing relationship. Bay is getting really good at her sign language though!

Winter Premiere: John wants to set ground rules for seeing Angelo. Bay wants to meet him at a jazz club, but John wants there to be a chaperone. Regina decides to go and it turns into a scene from how her family would have turned out. They end up fighting and Bay is left with resentment.

from abcfamily.com

Kathryn meets the nurse who may save them from this lawsuit. She had worked a 48 hour shift and remembers her being there and is willing to testify about the switch.

Emmit decides to play in a music festival with Toby and Wilke, because he is a bad ass drummer. Daphne is so upset about everything (Him being with Bay and her father returning) she decides to drive all night to see them play. When she gets there its so late she crawls into Emmit's tent. When he wakes he is furious why she is there. She leaves the tent, but not before Toby catching her leaving. He gets all big brother defensive and Emmit has to diffuse the situation.

Bay also shows up at the festival and is all kissy with Emmit, super cute. Daphne is not happy about this. Bay and Emmit try to order chicken enchiladas and the guy is so impatient that Bay jumps in. Emmit is mad. Then some guy pushes Emmit and Bay jumps in, he is mad again. He tries to tell her that he likes people to take a minute and try to figure things out, that it wont kill them and he is right. She apologizes and they make up. I have a bad feeling about this one, but at the same time I love them together.

Daphne tries to take her mind off things and ends up in small trysts with Wilke. They jump in the pool together as he takes off her hearing aids. They are cute together!

I am pretty sure the next episodes will be just as good. I love this concept of deaf and hearing and being switched. There are so many twins, switch shows out there, I cannot wait!! Do you like this show too?
